Certification Drive to Boost MSME Export Potential: Ganjam Workshop Empowers Businesses with Quality Standard

A dynamic workshop focusing on quality certifications such as ZED, ISO, and LEAN was held on 25th June 2025 at Ganjam, organized by the Department of MSME, Government of Odisha. The event aimed to mobilize vendors under the BDSP initiative and enhance the performance of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) under the Raising and Accelerating MSME Performance (RAMP) program. Industry experts, government officials, and local entrepreneurs came together to explore the transformative potential of these certifications in driving business growth and sustainability.

The workshop began with a warm welcome by Sri Hrushikesh Behera, General Manager of the District Industries Centre (DIC), Ganjam, who introduced the dignitaries present. Among them were Sri Dibya Jyoti Parida, IAS, Collector & District Magistrate of Ganjam; Sri Ankit Aditya Bhatta, Senior Consultant, Startup Odisha; Sri Shyama Prasad, Deputy Director of the National Productivity Council (NPC); Sri. Suramya Mishra, Consultant, KIIT TBI; and Sri. Debanu Das Mahapatra, Consultant, Quality Council of India (QCI).

Sri Dibya Jyoti Parida delivered the keynote address, emphasizing the critical role of MSMEs in economic development and the importance of adopting global best practices to stay competitive. His insights set the stage for the technical sessions that followed.

Sri Ankit Aditya Bhatta elaborated on the significance of the RAMP program, highlighting its role in strengthening institutions and fostering collaboration between the central and state governments to support MSME growth. Sri Shyama Prasad, focused on LEAN certification. He provided an overview of LEAN principles, their relevance to MSMEs, and practical steps for implementation. Attendees were inspired by success stories of businesses that achieved remarkable efficiency and waste reduction through LEAN methodologies.

Sri. Suramya Mishra further enriched the discussion by delving into specific LEAN tools, strategies for enterprise formation, and the handholding support available to MSMEs during their certification journey.

Sri. Debanu Das Mahapatra, covered the Zero Defect, Zero Effect (ZED) framework and ISO standards. He explained how these certifications enhance product quality, market competitiveness, and environmental sustainability. His detailed walkthrough of the certification process and available resources provided attendees with a clear roadmap to achieve these benchmarks. 

The workshop concluded with an interactive Q&A session, where participants engaged with experts to clarify doubts and explore certification pathways.

Sri Hrushikesh Behera delivered the closing address, expressing gratitude to all attendees and reiterating the importance of continuous improvement for MSMEs. The event ended on a high note with a networking lunch, offering participants an opportunity to forge valuable connections.

This workshop marks a significant milestone in empowering MSMEs with the knowledge and tools to excel through quality certifications. By embracing LEAN, ZED, and ISO standards, local businesses are well-positioned to boost productivity, minimize waste, and compete effectively in global markets.
